BRIEFS: Yachts allowed to sail between Guangdong and Macau

The government will launch a trial scheme for yachts to travel freely between Macau and Guangdong Province in the middle of next year. Accordingly, 40 to 50 temporary berths will be set near the Coloane ferry terminal, revealed the Marine and Water Bureau director Ms Wong Soi Man. In the early stages of the scheme, the Bureau may limit the number of passing yachts. Wong said that implementing the new scheme will not cause pressure to Macau’s maritime traffic, as the planned berths are far away from the waterways of the Inner Harbor. She added that only yachts licensed with mutual recognition may be allowed to travel between the two cities.

The University of Macau (UM) English Language Centre (ELC) has launched a new program that promotes English language learning outside the classroom, which has organized various activities over the past few months to help students learn English in an enjoyable and informal way. These activities included academic writing workshops, English chat rooms, field trips, western cultural activities such as pumpkin carvings and spirit drawings, Macau half-day tours, and many other extracurricular activities conducted in English. According to a press release issued by UM, this year, the ELC recruited four English Language Teaching Assistants from different backgrounds in order to organize more diverse and interesting English learning activities for students.
