Hong Kong man loses HKD40,000 in fake Alipay phishing scam

A Hong Kong man lost HKD40,000 after falling victim to a phishing scam in Macau involving fake Alipay messages, the Judiciary Police said. The victim received a fraudulent text claiming he would be charged a fee and was directed to contact scammers via WhatsApp. He was then sent to a fake UnionPay website, where he entered personal and bank details and followed instructions to input HKD40,000. The money was immediately transferred away. The scammers later asked him to enter another HKD20,000, prompting him to report the case.
