Chinese company wants to invest in wind farms in Brazil

China General Nuclear Meiya Power Holdings Corporation, headquartered in Hong Kong, is in talks to invest USD638 million (2 billion reais) in Brazil in wind power, financial news agency Bloomberg reported.
According to the agency CGN Meiya intends to acquire a minority stake in two wind farms of Brazilian company Casa dos Ventos, which will be completed in September of this year and will have a capacity of 392 megawatts.
Casa dos Ventos has projects in the states of Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Piaui, Pernambuco, Bahia, Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo, and owns the largest portfolio of wind projects in Brazil.
In 2011 Chinese company Sinovel Wind Group Co. supplied Engevix Engenharia SA’s Desenvix with turbines to produce 35 megawatts of power.
The State Grid Corporation of China has more than 6,000 kilometres of power transmission lines in Brazil and China Three Gorges Corporation also has power plants in Brazil following the purchase of a 21.35-percent stake in EDP-Energias de Portugal. MDT/Macauhub
