The nomination period for the Chief Executive election ended yesterday. The president of the Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive (CAECE), judge Song Man Lei, revealed that the Commission has only received nomination forms from two people. They are Vong Hin Fai, the candidate representative of Chui Sai On, and a resident called Lei Kuong Un.
Vong Hin Fai has submitted the signatures of 331 members of the CE Electoral College, all of which are preliminarily confirmed.
As for Lei Kuong Un, he has submitted a nomination form with 110 signatures. Nevertheless, CAECE found that none of the signatures belong to the Electoral College members.
The commission will further evaluate the list of candidates, and will release the preliminary candidate list tomorrow.
It will organize a political platform reading session for August 16 at 10 a.m. in the East Asian Games Dome, and will invite the members of the Electoral College.
Lei Kuong Un claims to be a Chinese medicine practitioner and former public servant of the Macau government.
He had also announced his intention to take part in the previous CE election five years ago, but failed to collect any nominations. Eventually, he only handed in an empty nomination form.
Another resident who has previously announced his intention to join the election, president Wong Wai-man of the Bar-Bending Union, claimed that he could only collect 23 nominations and was thus unable to meet the minimum requirement.
Chui Sai On is not alone… for now
