Health | Islands hospital public tender works under discussion

THE Islands District Medical Complex will soon go through public tender processes, according to Chou Kuok Hei, Coordinator of the Health Bureau (SSM) Expansion and Construction Office.

The Infrastructure Development Office (GDI) is responsible for the project’s public tender works as well as the project’s construction works, according to a statement released by the SSM on Tuesday.

The SSM said that the design of the medical complex is already complete, and has been submitted to the GDI with a list of necessary works.

The Island District Medical Complex will have a total of approximately 1,100 beds for patients.

Inside the hospital, high-tech facilities for medical protection, radiation therapy, and organ transplant procedures will be installed, together with an automatic medicine dispensing system and an automatic logistic system.

The SSM claimed that the medical complex’s design will significantly influence the hospitals’ future operation, and that the facilities needed to be practical and convenient for the public to access.

Regarding the infectious diseases building, the SSM has already revised its design of the building’s foundation works and provided a list of engineer works. A report concerning these matters was submitted to the GDI in the beginning of March this year.

The SSM stresses that that in 2016, the bureau received a request that the height of the infectious disease building be reduced by nine meters, necessitating a redesign for that building as well.

The construction of the infectious diseases building will be divided into two phases: foundation works and superstructure works.

The  design and construction of the superstructure works is still being amended based on the opinions provided by several governmental departments, according to Chou. JZ
