MOP20 billion Macau-Hengqin University Town to host 20,000 students by 2030

The government has committed approximately MOP20 billion to the development of the Macau-Hengqin International Education (University) Town. The University of Macau’s (UM) main campus, currently accounting for over MOP8 billion of the total budget, is scheduled for completion in 2029, while the third-phase campuses for Macau Polytechnic University (MPU) and the Macao University of Tourism (UTM) are expected to be largely completed by 2030, with a combined student capacity of 20,000 across the three institutions. According to the Legislative Assembly’s Follow-up Committee for Public Finance Affairs, the project will be implemented in three phases, with the first phase involving the relocation of the three public universities to Hengqin’s Dezhi Plaza between August and September.
