Municipal task force advances urban beautification

Municipal authorities are stepping up efforts to improve city cleanliness and urban aesthetics, with a dedicated task force coordinating across 16 departments to tackle key problem areas, officials said during yesterday’s TDM Forum.

Chao Wai Ieng, chairman of the Municipal Affairs Bureau’s City Management Committee, recalled that last year, the Chief Executive approved the establishment of the “Urban Beautification and Cleanliness Task Force,” led by the Secretary for Administration and Justice.

Over the past year, the task force has coordinated 16 government departments, focusing on key areas and issues to ensure targeted improvements and routine management.

The task force organized 13 specialized meetings last year and conducted field surveys in major tourist and residential districts, including NAPE, the central district, and the northern district.

Areas of focus included environmental hygiene, construction site management, and community revitalization. Specialized subcommittees worked on public space sanitation, site enclosure management, road pollution control, and community waste collection.

Chao also recalled the success of the “Inspection and Follow-up Subcommittee,” which used a cross-departmental reporting platform to identify and address city management issues. Of 7,489 cases filed last year, 7,326 were resolved, achieving a nearly 97% completion rate.
