Residents will have plenty of options when choosing the countdown parties to attend, with several public and private organizations holding events to help ring in 2015. The authorities have called on residents to pay attention to special traffic arrangements in areas near some of the city’s landmarks, including Macau Tower and the Taipa Houses-Museum.
One of the biggest countdown parties in town will be the Macau Countdown Concert 2014 at the Sai Van Lake Plaza in front of Macau Tower. Organized by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM), the event will begin at 8 p.m. and will last until midnight. The bureau has invited Hong Kong-based singers Andy Hui and Fiona Sit, as well as several local singers, to perform at the concert. There will also be a fireworks show by the water outside Macau Tower following the countdown.
TDM will also broadcast the concert. Giant screens will be erected at Senado Square, Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre and Avenida da Doutor Stanley Ho so that residents can watch the show.
Moreover, IACM will organize a Taipa Countdown Show at the Taipa House-Museum, with booths set up by the expatriate communities of Australia, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, Philippines and Thailand to sell their traditional foods and other products. The booths will open at 8.30 p.m. until 11.30 p.m.
There will be different performances by singers from Hong Kong and Macau. Attendants will also see Bollywood dance, traditional Thai dance, Portuguese folk dance and clown shows.
IACM has called on residents who wish to attend two events to refrain from bringing with them alcoholic beverages, aerosol sprays, metallic balloons and bottles.
Furthermore, the Macau General Union of the Neighborhood Association (Kai Fong) and the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM) will be organizing the countdown carnivals and galas today at the Iao Hon Market, the Baia Norte do Patane Leisure Area and the FAOM Workers Stadium.
Authorities will implement temporary traffic diversions and road closures near Macau Tower and the Taipa House-Museum between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m. tonight. Some bus stops, such as the Macau Tower stop, will be closed.
The authorities also said that there may be special traffic arrangements imposed near the local resorts tasked with organizing countdown events. They requested residents and drivers to pay attention to announcements.
