Sands China and MSO Co-organise MSO Sands China Cup

Sands China and Macau Special Olympics held the 2025 MSO Sands China Cup – Greater Bay Area Badminton Invitational Aug. 9 at Macao East Asian Games Dome, in line with the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games coming to Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in December – while supporting MSO’s Healthy Athletes programme. The tournament attracted over 200 athletes, assisted by 60 volunteers from the Sands Cares Ambassador programme, Scout Association of Macau, Macau Baptist College, and MSO Ambassador programme.

Sponsored by the Sports Bureau and supported by the Badminton Federation of Macau, the tournament’s more than 90 exciting matches included the challenging wheelchair badminton category featuring members of the Macau Association of Support for the Disabled.

Sands China hosted a tour of its integrated resorts for the GBA teams, followed by free health evaluations from the Healthy Athletes programme, which has provided over 7,000 health screenings to individuals with intellectual disabilities in Macao and funded follow-up medical care for over 850 individuals since the programme’s debut in 2014.

Additionally, Sands China recently held two community events to expand the MSO Healthy Athletes programme’s services into the Greater Bay Area. At the 2025 Greater Bay Area Special Needs Healthcare Day in Guangzhou, Sands China volunteers with specialised training from the Healthy Athletes programme assisted in conducing health screenings for Guangzhou athletes participating in the National Special Olympic Games, helping them improve their performance with examinations, assessments, and relaxation exercises. The 2025 Special Olympics Community – Healthy Athletes Programme event at Saint Paul School Macau served individuals with intellectual disabilities with seven professional health assessment services and with interactive booths and community health forums themed on sports and health knowledge. Sands China also donated MOP 708,700 to Macau Special Olympics at the event. The two outreach activities promoted social inclusion while raising public awareness of the physical and mental health development of people with intellectual disabilities.

Sands China’s community initiatives and the Sands Cares Ambassador programme for volunteerism are part of the Sands Cares global corporate citizenship programme.
