GBA calligraphy exhibition marks victory in war of resistance

A calligraphy exhibition featuring works by scholars from the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area was inaugurated this week, commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

The exhibition brings together the meticulously crafted works of numerous academicians and experts from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macau special administrative regions, and China’s Taiwan region.

Initiated by Xu Yangsheng, president of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, the exhibition will run through Oct 15 at the University Arts Centre on the university campus.

Using calligraphy as a medium, the exhibited works express a profound remembrance of history and a sincere cherishing of peace, said the event organizer.

The works feature a rich diversity of styles, each distinct and expressive — be it regular, cursive, clerical, or seal script, every brushstroke embodies character, and every shade of ink conveys deep emotion.

Each piece not only demonstrates the allure of calligraphic art but also carries with it profound historical sentiment and collective national memory, the organizer added. MDT/China Daily
