Taipa Grande Tunnel’s northern line project to cost HKD425 million

The Taipa Grande Tunnel project will cost HKD425.5 million, with construction expected to begin in the next quarter.

The project includes the design and construction of the North Line, which will take approximately 540 working days to complete.

According to the Public Works Bureau (DSOP), the project aims to facilitate travel between the Peninsula and Cotai (via the Macau Bridge) and is also expected to ease traffic congestion in the Pac On area (near the Taipa Ferry Terminal and Airport) and Cotai.

Currently, these areas experience frequent stops due to traffic lights, particularly at the Airport roundabout.

Meanwhile, the 890-meter-long structure will feature a four-lane, two-way road designed to handle heavy traffic.

Its highest section will reach approximately 23 meters above ground, passing over several key traffic routes and the light rail system.

The tender for the project was opened to the public in December last year, attracting 11 bids ranging from HKD413 million to HKD438 million.

Meanwhile, the tendering process for the South Line and related tunnel works is still under review. Authorities launched a restricted tender in May last year, pre-qualifying five bidders.

The estimated cost of this section ranges from HKD799 million to HKD1.117 billion, with construction expected to take around four years. Pending bid evaluation, authorities plan to commence work in the third quarter of this year. Staff  Reporter
