TT ends joylessly with cancellation of senior race

What was expected to be a joyful 2025 edition of the Isle of Man TT ultimately lost its shine with the cancellation of the last race of the program.

The Senior TT, scheduled to take place in the early hours of Sunday (Macau time), was canceled due to track conditions unsuitable for racing.

Initially, the final race of the program was delayed due to showers and wet roads earlier in the day. However, an attempt was made to start the race, but a track inspection by the racers revealed concerning conditions.

According to the organizers, Gary Thompson, Clerk of the Course, confirmed that the high and unpredictable wind conditions were not suitable for racing.

“It was clear, after speaking with several competitors from across the field following the Course Inspection Lap, that conditions were not where they needed to be. A couple of competitors said they’d be happy to ride in the conditions. Still, the overwhelming majority felt that the wind speeds and direction were coming from the opposite direction to what they had experienced over the past two weeks, making the conditions too unpredictable and not fit for racing,”

Thompson explained, noting that keeping the event as safe as possible for the riders was a significant factor.

On the previous day, confirming their dominance, Dean Harrison (Honda Racing) and Michael Dunlop (MD Racing Paton) won the Superstock and Supertwin TT races, respectively. Davey Todd finished second in both events.

‘Rutter’ crashes

Nine-time winner of the local Grand Prix, Michael Rutter, crashed Friday evening during the Supertwin TT race.

“He suffered a number of fractures in his spine between the L2 and L5 vertebrae. After being airlifted to the Walton Unit at Aintree Hospital, surgeons successfully stabilized all the fractures, and Michael has already been able to stand and walk. He will require more surgery on his ankle to repair a fracture there,” a statement from Rutter’s team noted.

For the time being, it is not clear if Rutter’s crash will affect his participation in the 57th Macau Motorcycle GP, which will take place on Macau roads in mid-November, with similar uncertainty surrounding Peter Hickman, who, as the Times reported, also crashed during the last qualifying session of the TT last week.
