The University of Macau (UM) has been ranked among the world’s top 300 universities in the annual Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings of 2014-2015, which were released last week. UM was included for the first time this year, ranking within 276-300. UM released a statement saying that they have stepped up their efforts in recent years to improve teaching and research, following international standards and “making significant social and global outreach.”
The institution recalled how it has carried out a comprehensive reform of its undergraduate curriculum, establishing the Honors College and incorporating a “4-in-1” model of education, comprised of discipline-specific education, general education, research, and internship education.
“UM is committed to providing a multifaceted education to students to help them grow into exemplary graduates with bilingual proficiency, multidisciplinary knowledge, good communication and cooperation skills, and the ability to cope with challenges brought about by increasing globalization and the economy,” the statement reads.
The university also said that it has made significant efforts to improve its academic research tolls, making critical investments in academic staff, as well as infrastructures and research laboratories.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2014-2015, by Thomson Reuters, judge world-class universities across their core missions, such as teaching, research, knowledge and international outlook.
