Wong Sio Chak warns of growing national security threats from US

Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak has acknowledged escalating risks to the SAR’s national security and social stability, citing intensified strategic competition between China and the United States, as well as “hegemonic acts” by the U.S. and other Western countries.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary for Security, Wong said, “In the face of the accelerated evolution of historic global changes and intensified strategic competition between China and the United States, the risks affecting Macau’s national security and social stability are becoming increasingly severe.”
Wong stressed that these risks are aggravated by “hegemonic acts of the U.S. and Western countries, as well as words and actions that seek to destroy, defame, and disrupt Macau.”
In the statement, he urged the society to “recognize the situation, hold firm to its position, cultivate a fighting spirit, and refuse to give in.”
He reaffirmed the principle that “defending national security is everyone’s responsibility,” noting that “all Macau residents are beneficiaries and guardians of national security; no one is excluded.”
The remarks followed a series of speeches by Xia Baolong, who urged Macau’s security authorities to fully implement President Xi Jinping’s directives to safeguard national security and ensure quality development in the Special Administrative Region. LV
