Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has taken a major step toward a Wall Street debut, submitting a confidential filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering.
The maker of the Claude chatbot said the filing gives it the option to go public once regulatory review is completed, although the timing, number of shares, and offering price have yet to be determined.
The move follows a recent $65 billion private fundraising round that boosted Anthropic’s valuation to $965 billion, placing it ahead of rival OpenAI and among the world’s most valuable startups. The company says it now generates annualized revenue of $47 billion.
Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives, Anthropic is widely viewed as a leading contender in the race to commercialize advanced artificial intelligence. Analysts say its IPO plans could help revive a sluggish U.S. market for public listings and may encourage other major AI firms to follow suit.
Industry observers say public listings would bring greater transparency to the fast-growing AI sector, requiring companies to disclose financial performance and investment strategies as competition intensifies.
