Artyzen and IC2 Association team up again for World Earth Day celebration

The Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, in partnership with the Macau IC2 Association, co-hosted the World Earth Day celebration yesterday for the fifth consecutive year, continuing their tradition of planting a tree at the hotel.
This year’s event, themed “From Pulp to Planet, Love Recycle,” focused on fostering deeper reflection on the consumption and disposal of everyday paper products.
The event highlighted how repurposing even the simplest materials can ignite community dialogue, creativity, and environmental action.
The organizers aim to integrate diverse and inclusive concepts with environmental protection through World Earth Day celebrations, promoting public awareness of sustainable development issues.
In addition to traditional activities like a green walk to the hotel and a tree-planting ceremony, the event featured screenings of environmental short films, a pickleball demonstration match, a fashion show using recycled paper, and performances by the IC2 Association and the Macau Deaf Association.
António Luís Leong, president of the IC2 Association, emphasized in his speech that “From Pulp to Planet, Love Recycle” is not just a slogan but a guiding principle for action.
IC2 (I Can Too) event planning volunteer mentor Ada Lo told reporters on the sidelines of the event that, as course director, she aims to use this opportunity to teach IC2 students how to organize events and take responsibility for their implementation. Students begin classes each November, meeting once a week, and hosting the World Earth Day event serves as their final project.
Rutger Verschuren, area vice president of Macau & Hengqin for Artyzen Hospitality Group and general manager of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, described the cooperation with the IC2 Association as a way of giving back to society.
He stated that as someone who benefits from the prosperity brought by running a hotel, he cannot focus solely on commercial interests, adding that doing something for the community and becoming part of it is a duty and an attitude that everyone working and living in Macau should uphold.
“Having a successful day like this is much more meaningful than 100% hotel occupancy,” Verschuren shared, highlighting the significance of the event. YL
