Che wants gov’t to review economic housing acquisition policies

Lawmaker Che Sai Wang addressed the plenary yesterday at the Legislative Assembly, calling on the authorities to review the policies for the economic acquisition of public housing.
The lawmaker stated that current policies have gradually drifted away from the original purpose of providing housing for residents with low- and middle-income levels.
He noted that currently, the price of this type of public housing has reached approximately MOP3,300 per square foot, a situation he described as “highly disconnected from the recessionary real estate market, which is in a state of constant adaptation and also jeopardizes the preservation of the value and attractiveness of affordable housing, given the dual constraints of high prices and strict application requirements.”
He wants the government to return to the original policy and purpose, which is to provide affordable economic housing at prices significantly below those in the regular private market sector, benefiting, in particular, younger generations. RM
