The North District Community Service Consultative Council held its first regular meeting of the year yesterday, during which several members called on the government to better coordinate community activities with the expected Lunar New Year visitor flow, in a bid to attract people into the district and revitalize the local economy.

Members suggested that authorities continue organizing a variety of Lunar New Year celebrations in the North District, combined with themed neighborhood art installations or festive photo-taking spots, to enhance the area’s appeal and encourage visitors to explore beyond traditional tourist zones.

Proposals also included introducing zodiac-themed buses during the festive period, operating across the North District and extending to other areas, to “strengthen inter-district connectivity and create a more festive atmosphere.”

To further stimulate spending, members recommended launching consumption incentive programs on weekends and public holidays, alongside closer cooperation with online payment platforms.

They said such measures could encourage residents to stay in Macau to spend during the holidays while helping to divert crowds from busier districts.

Other suggestions focused on improving convenience for residents ahead of the festive season.

Members proposed streamlining plant entry procedures to facilitate the purchase of New Year flowers, including the establishment of an online enquiry platform and the integration of plant quarantine appointment services into the Macao One Account system. LV
