DICJ director Ng Wai Han sworn in as Secretary for Economy and Finance

Ng Wai Han was officially sworn in today as the new Secretary for Economy and Finance, replacing Tai Kin Ip, who resigned in April for personal reasons, according to an official government announcement.
Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai presided over the oath-taking ceremony at Government Headquarters this morning, where Ng took office in accordance with the Law on Oath-taking, following the playing of the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China.
Ng’s appointment was approved by China’s State Council on June 10, following her nomination by Sam in accordance with the Basic Law of the Macao Special Administrative Region.
Before her appointment, Ng served as director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ). She assumed leadership of the gaming regulator in May 2025, becoming the first woman to head the bureau since its establishment. Her term was later extended for an additional year in May.
Ng also previously served as director of the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP).
Ng was born in Macau in 1976 and entered public service in 1999. She holds a bachelor’s degree in law and a master’s degree in criminal law from Sun Yat-Sen University.
The government has not yet announced her successor as DICJ director.
