The Macau Foundation has granted over MOP500 million in subsidies throughout the second quarter of this year. The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) has received MOP45 million to support the construction of a new campus in the Ilha Verde area.
The university had received a second installment of MOP45 million for the new campus construction early this year, Radio Macau reported. In addition, the Macau Foundation also granted USJ MOP5 million for activities during the current school year.
The Macau University of Science and Technology was granted MOP360,000 for the third phase of the e-Macao project, a study regarding exchange mechanisms of government data. MOP100 million was also granted to the MUST Foundation to financially support the construction of a fifth student’ dorm, and the purchase of equipment.
In addition, MOP44 million was granted to support planned annual activities in four institutions under MUST Foundation.
City University of Macau Foundation received a total of MOP27 million, with MOP3 million to partially fund refurbishment works of its campus, and MOP24 million to support activities for the current school year. The foundation was also granted MOP10 million for academic and administrative affairs.
The Macau Foundation granted several subsidies to social service organizations, including Caritas (over MOP4 million) and the Macau Mental Health Association (MOP40,000).
Cultural associations were also granted a different range of subsidies. The Art for All Society –
which had been forced to close its art gallery due to escalating rent increases – was granted MOP550,000 (as a first installment) to support its activities’ plan. The Macau Young Artists Association was granted MOP70,000 for a specific project and activities’ plan for 2014.
The Macanese Association was granted MOP1 million for its plan of activities, while the Association for Macanese Education was granted over MOP1 million.
In a recently released report, the Macau Foundation revealed that it approved fewer applications for funding in 2013 compared to the previous year. The number of applications submitted also decreased.
The foundation provided a higher number of subsidies to associations within the educational, social and scientific sectors. CP
