Man fakes police extortion after losing friend’s casino funds

A 43-year-old mainland man has been referred to the Public Prosecutions Office after allegedly fabricating a story about being extorted in a Cotai casino. The man claimed “two Judiciary Police officers” took HKD70,000 worth of chips from him and detained him overnight. However, surveillance footage showed no such encounter. Authorities later confirmed he lost the borrowed money while gambling and invented the incident to deceive his friend. He is now under investigation for making a false report.
