In response to media inquiries during yesterday’s media Spring Festival symposium, Judiciary Police (PJ) director Sit Chong Meng noted the first arrest made under last year’s National Security Law, emphasizing that “evidence was relatively sufficient” when the force cracked the case in late July.

However, when pressed for more details, he reiterated that the specifics of the case are not suitable for public disclosure during the trial phase.

Currently, publicly available information remains limited. Reports suggest that the first individual referred to the Public Prosecutions Office for violating the Macau National Security Law is Au Kam San, a 68-year-old pro-democracy figure who served in the Macau Legislative Assembly for two decades.

PJ’s investigation alleges that Au provided information to “anti-China organizations abroad,” inciting Macau residents and “uninformed citizens of various countries” to harbor hatred toward China and the Macau government, potentially instigating hostile actions against Macau.

In connection with those alleged actions, he is suspected of endangering national security by establishing connections with foreign organizations.

On the same topic, Sit remarked, “We take national security cases extremely seriously. Upon detecting any signs or indications, we will immediately open an investigation and commence inquiries. Should sufficient evidence be available, we will proceed with arrests.”

While he acknowledged the limitations on disclosing details about other ongoing cases, Sit assured the public that investigations would be initiated swiftly if any new evidence emerged.

In a previous statement at the same event, he has asserted that the force is committed to upholding national sovereignty and security by strengthening its national security measures and ensuring social stability.

“We will persist in giving equal emphasis to centralized and routine education while deepening national security publicity efforts,” underscoring the commitment to bolster Macau’s national security framework, emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement in the area.

He also noted that the eighth Legislative Assembly (AL) elections were completed under the guidance of the National Security Committee and higher authorities without any disruptions, a result of the force’s commitment to maintaining stability and ensuring that national security remains a top priority in Macau.
