Some residents living in the Cidade Nova de Toi San have complained that the estate’s management company have extortionately increased the number of parking spaces, some of which are now blocking main entrances.
The residents have repeatedly lodged protests on the matter to the management company, as well as to several government bureaus, such as the Fire Services Bureau (CB), the Housing Bureau (IH) and the Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT).
None of the protests have yielded results that have satisfied residents. As such, the residents recently submitted a letter to the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC).
Located on Avenida de Artur Tamagnini Barbosa, the estate is a mixed development, consisting of private and government economic housing. The estate development was completed between 1990 and 1993. It has an elevated parking lot that serves as a platform connecting all blocks in the estate.
Taking an older design style, each block has a door connecting directly to the parking lot without fences. Residents have criticized some companies for, on the one hand, adding excessive parking spaces, and on the other, placing parking spaces directly in front of building doorways.
The residents pointed out that there are nine parking spaces right outside the elevator lobby of Block 8 of the estate. When all of them are occupied, not even wheelchairs are able to pass through.
It was revealed that in the 1980’s and 1990’s a company bought several dozens of parking spaces at the estate none of which have been used. In the past couple of years, the company suddenly added a significant number of parking spaces to the estate. It even claimed that the registrations were completed before 1999.
Representing the residents, parliamentary election candidate Leong Sun Iok hoped the CCAC would investigate the case if it should involve any maladministration.
