The University of Macau (UM) has received a significant donation of 1,491 biodiversity specimens from Dr. Emmett R. Easton, a former faculty member. Collected during the 1990s, the UM said these specimens are crucial for studying the evolution of Macau’s ecological environment. The donation includes both dried and fluid-preserved specimens, with some potentially representing species now extinct in the region. This collection is aimed at enhancing research capabilities at UM. Dr. Easton, who now resides in the U.S., previously donated hundreds of specimens upon his retirement.
