Only 46 employers or entities of 2,187 found to be working illegally or engaged in unlawful work practices involving non-resident workers (TNRs) since 2018 have been banned from hiring TNRs, the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) said in reply to a written inquiry from lawmaker Ella Lei last month.
According to DSAL, these 46 employers were fined and prohibited from importing workers for periods spanning from six months to two years.
The other 2,187 received administrative penalties, including fines.
Between January 2018 to September this year, a total of 2,197 people individuals were implicated in these cases, including TNRs performing duties differing from those stipulated on their “Blue Cards” and unregistered workers.
In this year alone, there have been 270 people under investigation for suspected illegal work activities.
According to Public Security Police Force (PSP) records cited by DSAL, bans have also been enforced on 1,079 people working illegally from January 2019 to October this year.
Illegal drivers have been among the cases most cited this year (January to October) with the PSP finding 56 cases across several Macau districts.
