The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has launched a tendering process for a project to revitalize the Coloane Old Market area as part of efforts to boost community tourism and pedestrian-friendly spaces.
According to the bureau, the project will preserve the existing pavilion structure located at the center of the building cluster as well as the sloped roof design, while introducing functional and aesthetic upgrades. The redevelopment plan aims to incorporate more youth-oriented and artistic elements to refresh the district’s image.
Authorities are proposing a mixed-use development model that combines heritage preservation with dining, cultural and creative retail, and leisure services. The initiative is intended to improve walking environments, attract visitor traffic, and support local economic activity.
Separately, the Macao Government Tourism Office said it is continuing to encourage community organizations to organize tourism events through subsidy programs.
For 2026, six subsidized activities have been approved to be held around Coloane Pier and nearby areas, including guided tours, games, and handicraft workshops.
The Cultural Affairs Bureau also plans to introduce guided cultural tours focusing on Coloane village life, folk traditions, and temple heritage. The program aims to strengthen the district’s cultural tourism appeal while promoting community-based travel experiences.
