Cristo Cheung | Local entrepreneur publishes book about 50 years in business

Modesty, endeavor and perseverance are principles that bring success, according to Cristo Cheung, a local businessman who provides his personal account of the commercial and political scene in Hong Kong over the past 50 years in his Chinese autobiography.
The savvy professional stated during his book launch in Macau this week that he invested a significant amount of effort into his business and that the work has paid off: his assets have reached a ten-digit value in a matter of 10 years after starting from scratch.
In addition to this, Cheung urged local young entrepreneurs to learn from  the mainland’s successful businessmen, from whom their US counterparts are also taking reference.  He then attributed their surprising success to the Chinese consumer market, which accounted for a quarter of all of his assets. “They are daring to accept innovation, without knowing what the traditional way is. Therefore they have made many achievements,” he said.
Asked how young people could possibly address the mounting rental prices for their startups, the experienced entrepreneur stated that these lessons had to be figured out on their own. He also told the fresh entrepreneurs to learn from Hong Kong and America in terms of commerce.
Cheung concluded that  teenage business high-flyers should be fearless and try to go wherever there are opportunities due to the amount of time at their disposal.  “Nothing is absolute. Therefore when there are opportunities, go seize them. Especially for the youth, what they have most is time. They rather try more.”
The autobiography was finished over six months, recording the author’s half century of business in Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China. It also touched on how Sino-British negotiations have impacted the socioeconomic situation of Hong Kong and also China’s prosperity after its reform. Cheung hoped that his manuscript could serve to enlighten local youngster. Staff reporter
