HZMB’s Macau Port reports over 10 million passenger crossings

The Macau Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) has reported surpassing 10 million inbound and outbound passenger crossings early Friday morning, reaching the target 13 days earlier than in 2024.

According to the Macau Public Security Police Force (PSP), the port has averaged 78,000 daily crossings this year, an 11.1% increase compared to the same period last year.

Passenger distribution reveals that 50.5% crossed via the Hong Kong-Macau Hall, 15% through the Zhuhai-Macau Hall, and 34.5% used vehicle lanes.

Demographically, Macau residents accounted for 32.3%, mainland tourists 28.9%, Hong Kong tourists 28.3%, foreign nationals 7.1%, with smaller percentages from non-local workers and Taiwan residents.

Notably, the HZMB Macau Port handles the highest proportion of foreign travelers among Macau ports, representing 35.9% of such crossings connecting to international travel destinations.

The bridge’s “one bridge, three regions” design facilitates connectivity, supported by favorable policies like “Northbound Travel for Macau Vehicles” and cross-border private car arrangements with Hong Kong.

To maintain efficiency, the PSP has enhanced cooperation with customs and immigration authorities and expanded infrastructure, including new inbound vehicle lanes and inspection halls in 2024.

The PSP declared the introduction of mutual QR code e-channel clearance in July 2024 as further streamlining travel between cities, with 65% of 360,000 Hong Kong residents using the service crossing through the Macau port.

The HZMB Macau Port is the sole land-based port linking Macau to Hong Kong, processing 54.8% of all Hong Kong travelers entering Macau from January to April 2025. Nadia Shaw
