Economist Rodrigo Brum took on the role of Deputy Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau, appointed by the Portuguese-speaking countries, on September 1. He replaced Mozambique’s Vicente de Jesus Manuel who had been in the role since 2013.
Brum, a Portuguese national, in the 1990s was the chief of staff of Macau’s then Deputy Secretary for Economy and Finance, Vítor Pessoa, under the administration of Rocha Vieira, and chairman of the management council of the Industrial Park of Concordia (SPIC).
The new Deputy Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau has a degree in Business Management from the Higher Institute of Economics at the Technical University of Lisbon.
Macau Forum is headed by Secretary-General Xu Yinzhen of the Ministry of Commerce of China and has three deputy secretaries-general: Ding Tian nominated by China, Rodrigo Brum nominated by the eight Portuguese-speaking countries represented in the Forum, and Echo Chan nominated by the Macau Government.
Forum Macau was created in October 2003 by China under the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, with the aim of making the territory a platform for strengthening economic and trade cooperation with the Portuguese-speaking countries. MDT/Macauhub
