Tigerair partners with MGTO

Tigerair Taiwan, a budget carrier joint venture between Taiwan’s China Airlines and Singapore’s Tiger Airways, said yesterday that it has partnered with the Macau Government Tourist Office on a two-month travel campaign. The event began at the beginning of this month and will run through to August 31. It aims to introduce the region to Tigerair passengers. According to the carrier, the highlight of the campaign is an on-board special serving of pastel de nata, an egg tart pastry common in Portugal. The cabins will also be decorated with Macau-themed fittings, and passengers holding Tigerair boarding passes can enjoy discounted tickets for the show “House of Dancing Water.” More promotional events will be held later this year.

After discovering cases of illegal graffiti in buildings located in the St Lazarus neighborhood, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) issued a statement saying that it will ask the police to find the authors of the graffiti and request compensation from them. According to IC, inspections will be strengthened in order to protect Macau’s heritage sites.

Anima roundtable on greyhound racing

The Macau Society for the Protection of Animals (Anima) is organizing a roundtable with animal rights activists who advocate for the ending of greyhound racing in Macau. The initiative will be held on July 23. Several international associations from nine countries and regions will gather to “discuss measures that may be taken worldwide to put an end to the exploitation of racing greyhounds,” explained the president of Anima, Albano Martins.

The movie-inspired Golden Reel Ferris Wheel that is expected to become Studio City’s “iconic centerpiece attraction,” is now undergoing mechanical testing in Macau, according to Sina.com. The 130-meter-high ferris wheel will be located in the middle of the resort’s twin hotel towers, and is said to be the first of its kind in the world and the tallest wheel in Asia. Studio City is Melco Crown Entertainment’s USD3.2-billion new resort, which is currently under development in Cotai.
