50 new taxis in service as ride-hailing bill advances

The Transport Bureau said that of the 100 taxis authorized under two ordinary light taxi passenger transport licenses issued in 2025, 50 have already entered service, while the remaining vehicles are expected to begin operations gradually in the second quarter of 2026. In response to a written inquiry from lawmaker Song Pek Kei, the bureau also said it is drafting amendments to Macau’s taxi law to provide a legal basis and regulatory framework for ride-hailing services before submitting the bill for legislative review.
