Mainland firms based in Beijing are considering Macau as a worldwide launchpad for establishing research and development (R&D) centers, international headquarters, and regulatory bases, taking advantage of what the city has to offer.
The announcement was made late last week during the “Intelligent Macao: Embarking on Global Journey – Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Biopharmaceutical Industry International Expansion” organized by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).
The event offered a platform for industry upgrading and international expansion for Beijing–Macau businesses, along with advancing shared efforts toward a science-and-technology-driven future.
IPIM reported receiving numerous inquiries from mainland companies interested in establishing in Macau, across sectors like AI, healthcare, and biopharmaceuticals; local firms showed particular interest in Macau’s business climate and investment policies.
Several AI and cybersecurity companies based in Beijing are planning visits to evaluate if Macau can serve as their R&D or operational hubs.
A biotech company in Beijing preparing for an IPO plans to leverage the city’s open information environment and institutional strengths to establish an R&D center and an international headquarters.
Another company, focused on developing cardiac stents, was reported to be interested in registering its medical devices in Macau and using the territory as a launchpad into international markets, pursuing clinical partnerships and regulatory cooperation.
IPIM led a delegation of over 20 technology and biopharmaceutical entrepreneurs to the conference, which attracted more than 130 representatives from companies and institutions in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen to explore potential cooperation between Beijing and Macau in the technology innovation sector.
