Gongbei Port recorded nearly 850,000 passenger crossings over the two-day weekend from Aug. 8 to 9, marking the busiest weekend since the start of the 2026 summer travel season, according to China Central Television (CCTV).
The port said passenger flows between Zhuhai and Macau have risen sharply during the peak summer travel period, with particularly heavy traffic at weekends. Families traveling with children accounted for a significant share of travelers, while many passengers were residents of Greater Bay Area cities and families traveling from other parts of Guangdong and across mainland China for summer vacations.
Outbound passenger flows at Gongbei Port peaked between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., while return traffic was heaviest from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The latest figures come amid sustained summer travel demand between Macau and neighboring Zhuhai, with Gongbei remaining one of the major land border crossings serving travelers between the two cities.
Authorities said they will continue monitoring passenger flows and adjusting arrangements to cope with the increased traffic during the summer peak.
