Gov’t proposes to shorten free street parking period

The government has proposed amendments to the Road Traffic Law that would reduce the current 15-day limit for free street parking to a maximum of eight consecutive days. Under the draft, parking beyond this period would be considered overtime parking, aimed at improving traffic circulation and maximizing the use of limited parking resources in Macau. In addition, the proposed legislation introduces a “cooperation obligation” that would require vehicle owners – both individuals and legal entities – involved in traffic accidents to actively assist with investigations carried out by the relevant authorities.
