Mainland student loses HKD400,000 in ‘fake police’ scam

A mainland Chinese male university student studying in Macau reportedly lost around HKD400,000 after falling victim to a scam impersonating law enforcement authorities. According to the Judiciary Police, on September 22 the victim received a call from someone claiming to be from the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, alleging his phone number was linked to fraudulent activity. The student provided personal documents and bank details, then transferred funds to a designated account under the scammer’s instructions before losing contact.
