Secretary for Economy and Finance, Tai Kin Ip, pledged during China’s Two Sessions that the city will become “a hub for outstanding international talent,” vowing measures to diversify its economy alongside Beijing’s strategy.
Tai called 2026 pivotal, pushing for high-quality growth in big health via traditional Chinese medicine, modern finance, high technology, and conventions, exhibitions, trade, culture, and sports. “The MSAR government will fully leverage its unique advantages, seize national development opportunities, and better integrate into and serve overall national development,” he said.
“The economic and financial sectors will pragmatically promote the appropriate diversification of Macau’s economy to ensure the successful implementation of the Central Government’s major decisions,” remarked Tai.
Plans include advancing the Macau Science and Technology R&D Industrial Park, government guidance funds, and new productive forces.
Macau will “proactively promote the creation of a cargo terminal at Macau International Airport in Hengqin and push forward the Macau-Hengqin International Education City project” for “high-level regional integration and synergistic development,” Tai said.
“We will employ innovative thinking and pragmatic approaches to accelerate the high-quality development of these industries.”
